This is the first novel of Christine James that I have read and I loved it! The editing needs some improvements but it's nothing that you can't figure out. I also thought that parts of the story where rushed, especially after the lovebirds get it on and towards the end. However the storyline was great and I can't wait for the next book. James is creative in her writing, but is repetive with esome words and phrases.
Her main characters are Erin and Angelo who I couldn't help but like, although there are times where you want to hit Angelo. I think James could have really given more details about her characters, but she introduced three of them towards the end of the novel so I suppose with the whole demon killing and Angelo fighting for his life there isnt heaps of time for that. in saying that I think the length of the book could have been longer so that you were able to read more about the characters and the whole danger, demons and angels situation where earth is doomed if not for Erin.
Overall I will be buying the next book and I recommend that you at least read the sample for this book, because I couldn't put it down after I bought it:)

t's a stretch for me to give this book a 3* rating, but I am and honestly yes it deserves it. What makes it a 3* instead of the original 2.5 I would have given it? The fact that the last 10 chapters of the book really grabbed your attention and kept it. There were parts in the rest of the book that made you laugh or caught your attention, but holding it was a whole different story.

Erin, your typical young adult is out for the nigh with her friend Anna at the town's carnival ha comes around once,a year, but Anna has to leave to take care of family. She falls prey as most of us do to a "psychic." Maggie is her name and she tells Erin things that just can't be right and scares Erin right out of the "tent." where she bumps into our other main character Angelo. The last night of he carnival and Angelo will be gone. Erin has this attraction, she looks forward to each day and seeing him. Then things change, supposedly he's in her life for a much different reason than she had hoped for. She learns who and what Angelo really is and is told some things that just absolutely knock her and the reader off their feet. The story that Angelo tells her is gripping, and well just amazing. St. Michael, Satan, Daeman and Fallen Angels. Who is she to believe, trust? She is falling in love with Angelo but he keeps rejecting her.

There's nothing like a good battle between good and evil and that is exactly what we get in the last few chapters of the book. Erin comes into her own long before these chapters take place and as far as Angelo, Eli, Angie, Blaze and Josh are concerned is ready. But is she? Does she have what it takes?

I'll say this, it's true when they say Good always wins. But what is the price?

I have always been a reader, and I have enjoyed many genres. From time to time when I start a new book, I like the thrill of just jumping in head first. Rather like taking on a blind date, a sense of not knowing what to expect. That is how I chose to approach this book, with not much idea of what it dealt with. I am very glad I did!! The ride of twists and questions waiting for answers was so much better for me!

Risen (The Chosen Chronicles) has an intriguing back history for its main characters. I do not believe in giving spoilers, so "Angels" is all I will mention about it. At first I was riddled with questions, wondering what the point was for certain things. Part of this for me, was just due to adjusting to the style of the author. Both main characters, Angelo and Erin, became very real to me. The author, Christine James, did a very good job helping me get to know them, their personalities. As I was brought farther into the Angel world, the suspense became more tangible and understandable. There are real world troubles for them that anyone could relate to. Since Angelo and Erin are not fully human, there are non-human struggles to overcome as well. Even those issues felt real for me. I found that I "grew" with Erin in the story. The Erin I first met in the story is very changed by the end, in ways Angelo is too. The supporting characters are just as defined, just as easy to see. I have to say that I found Blaze to be a rather brilliant and refreshing add!

In order to be up front, only a couple things were distracting within the reading. I did come across some edit issues. That has become a rather "regular" thing with some ebooks, so I can say they were minor in comparison to some. The only other thing is more of a personal one. Christine James uses the phrase "wife beater" in relating to clothing, more than once. That is not a phrase used where I am from, it took some time for me to follow her meaning. Plus the mental image that term did create for me contrasted greatly to the reading...it was a bit distracting. Again that is a personal thing, anyone familiar with the term may not even have noticed.

I thoroughly DID enjoy this tale, I liked her creativity and how she brought it all together. In some ways I would have loved MORE depth or background at points. Given how the authors style with enlightenment flowed, I am holding out hope for that MORE to be in the next book. 4 stars )
